Published by Chronicle Books, this book of photographs by Mark Edward Harris offers rare glimpses into North Korea. As the book was to be translated into multiple languages, all type had to print in black ink only. In response, a formal system was developed which suggests a rising black curtain as one progresses through the opening pages of the book. The text is relegated to these black zones as the cover image is gradually revealed. Scaling and pairing the photographs were other immediate design concerns.
